We all love our little feline friends. They give us a nice cuddly companion but they do not require a lot of effort to entertain or bond with.
They are the perfect pet for anyone who doesn’t have enough time or energy to take care of a dog but you still want a little friend to hang out with and be able to go to for emotional support.
When you adopt a little kitty, it becomes a domestic cat. Whether you took in a stray or got it from a domestic cat that gave birth, you now own a domestic little kitten. When they are younger, they knead. It is strange but people just assume it is because they are small and like to knead things.
But when they knead as they get bigger and knead when they are adults, people become stumped. Why do your adult cats knead you? Well, that is something else that people do not have a really solid answer to.
First, what is kneading? It is a motion that cats do that looks a lot like if they were making biscuits or bread, they knead the dough just as humans do. But they usually do it on a soft surface like a blanket or pillow and this is pretty common behavior for them.
Some people say that adult cats will knead blankets and pillows If they are extremely happy or content. Though, there really is no way to prove whether or not this is a true fact. Think about if you have a brand new blanket or pillow and it is so soft that it makes you happy and you just want to cuddle up with it for hours, the cat feels the same about them.
So if your cat is kneading on you, it supposedly means that they feel the same way about you as you feel about a soft blanket or a comfortably and fluffy pillow. This is a good sign because that means that your cat loves you and you make him or her really happy. So you must be doing something right.
Another common reason a cat would be kneading, and this might be more for wild cats than domestic cats,is because they are trying to create a safe space. If a cat is pregnant and planning to give birth they will gather some materials and put them into a pile and then start kneading it down to a flat and fluffy surface so that the kittens will have somewhere safe and comfortable to grow until they can walk.
Those are the two main reasons as to why an adult cat would be kneading but as I said before either in the story, no one really knows why they do it for a certain fact.
Although, there is the small speculation that the cats actually do it as a way of marking their territory and claiming things. We all know that cats love to claim things as their own to keep other animals and more importantly other cats away from the things that they love.
So if they knead on you, they might be claiming you as their own and you should feel pleased that they care about you enough to claim you.
So, unless your cat is pregnant you can pregnant ahead and assume that when your cat kneads, it is because it loves you and you make your cat just ad happy as they make you. But all and all, no matter the reason, we can all agree that we love the little furry friends that we have adopted.
